On growing older
You know, when I was 21 and I got my first job, I thought life could only get as steady as it gets from there.
I thought that I got my life together, for good.
If I think about it now, those 3 years after you turn 21 are probably the best years of your life, no wonder why Taylor Swift made a song about it. It really is a big deal.
You get the perks of being an adult, without the adult, adult responsibilities. It was exhilarating and empowering.
Now I see that life itself is too long to always stay that way.
I would not say it gets worse though. It is just that nobody prepared me about how many times you have to reinvent yourself, to unlearn and learn so many new things, because you outgrow the things you've always known.
Or just how many times circumstances have to change because of things you cannot control, leaving you with nothing but to figure out (again) where and how you belong.
I would not say it gets worse, even I could say that it gets better that now you have outgrown the past version of yourself.
But boy was it a taxing experience.
Growing older is a humbling blessing.
