They Say...

The sense of warmth provided by love we felt in the past is tempting.
As far as I know, temptation is something inviting yet we better avoid anyway.
So, you know what I mean, don't you?

Life moves forward, they say.
But they never say how difficult it is to move forward when your present is still far from what you're hoping for,
yet your past was dreamlike.
When the happiness you once felt was so warm that it left a mark on your heart,
tell me how to not have your blood rush to your head every single time you look back?
But life moves forward, they say.

Maybe the scriptwriter who wrote the script for How I Met Your Mother knew things about life all too well.
I remember when Robin Scherbatsky was tempted to get back together again with
Barney Stinson, there's a line saying this:

So he/she thought that it's a mistake to run to the past just because it's familiar.
But honestly Sir/Madame, familiarity gives us warmth.
I think when someone misses his past too much, he'll start compromising about things he's learned in the past.
There were mistakes, unfitness, or anything that cause one thing to end.
After it ended, we move forward.
Along the way, when we feel so empty or cold,
we start looking backward when things were rainbow and butterflies.
But we skip the bad part.
We compromise.
Then we think "Maybe this time things will go right."
I tell you what: it's not.

Life moves forward, it's true.
No matter how bitter it is to swallow, but it is true.
And it sucks, doesn't it?
To realize that this time you should follow your brain instead of your heart.
---

But here's what I say:
Some mistakes are meant to be made.
If one thing can't get out of your head, no matter how much of a nonsense it is, just do it.
Maybe it is true that against all odds things will go right this time.
And if it's not, you will have no "what ifs" anymore.
And it will give you a peace of mind.
